Miller Island and Turtle Lodge

Even before it became an island getaway, Miller island had a fascinating history centered around the stunning Turtle Lodge.

Turtle Lodge was built circa 1930 by “charming, handsome and brilliant” Lt. Col. J.R. Booth following his eviction from the Seigniory Club – now the Chateau Montebello. Booth built the Lodge directly across the river and it is said to resemble a turtle; the kitchen is the head, the great hall is the shell and each of the four guest suites is one of the legs. It is no coincidence that the main doors (at the turtle’s “bottom”) face directly at the Montebello.

Today, the Lodge is a one-of-a-kind gathering place for the island’s inhabitants to celebrate the years and important milestones. It has provided the perfect setting for many a wedding, holiday and family reunion in its 90+ year history.

You can read more about the Lodge, the island and its history on the Presqu’ile website.

  • 6,000 square foot log construction lodge is in use from Spring-September
  • 2,000 square foot Great Hall seats 60 or accommodates up to 150 for less formal events
  • Four guest suites accommodate overnight guests of the island’s inhabitants
  • Two serving areas function as buffets or bars for events
  • Full kitchen and larder for catered events
  • Lower level houses workout room and island caretaker’s office
