Why do people decide to move? Unless it’s a requirement, such as a job relocation, the research tells us that you, like many homeowners, may decide to sell at some point for one or more of the following reasons:
Time to Size Up (Or Down)
Your home is no longer a good fit for you and your family.
You may have outgrown your current home and need something bigger, maybe with an additional bedroom or space for an at-home office. Especially since working from home and home schooling has become a reality for many during COVID-19, this may be the main reason as to why you have outgrown your home or need a different set-up.
Or, the opposite may be true. Maybe it is time to downsize into something smaller and cash in some of the home equity you have built up.
You’ve got your eye on a different neighbourhood.
Have you ever driven through an area and thought, “I’d love to live here”? You may think that it’s out-of-reach for you at this time. But is it? You never know until you work the numbers. You might, in fact, qualify for a home in that neighbourhood today!
New surroundings may be just the thing you need now that you are working from home as well as home schooling. Perhaps a change of scenery would be the perfect decision for you and your family.
You may want to be closer to something.
Many homeowners would love, for example, to live closer to work, family, hobbies, the country, water, etc. Moving to a home that’s nearer to one of those “somethings” can have a positive impact on your lifestyle.
During these pandemic times, proximity to certain places and things may have changed and you no longer need to live close to, for example, work, and instead would like to be further out in the country or closer family and friends. Many people are realizing that their home set-up no longer supports the lifestyle they had pre-COVID and that can play a massive role in deciding to move.
Change Things Up
Sometimes a homeowner just wants to make a change; new surroundings, a fresh start.
Who says you need a “practical” reason to sell? If you’re looking to get into a new home just because you feel like it, that’s your decision. In fact, that may be the best reason of all to sell. You may simply want to move.
