Beacon Hill –  Summer Bucket List

One of my favourite things about Beacon Hill is how easy it is to enjoy summer without ever leaving the neighbourhood. From beautiful parks and waterfront pathways to family-friendly activities and local restaurants, there is always something happening. Whether you’ve lived here for thirty years or just moved in last month, summer is the perfect time to explore everything our community has to offer.

To celebrate, I’ve put together the ultimate Beacon Hill Summer Bucket List. How many can you check off before Labour Day?

Enjoy a Margarita at La Bonita

Summer patios and margaritas go hand-in-hand.

Whether you’re celebrating the end of a workday or catching up with friends, La Bonita has become a local favourite for great food, refreshing drinks, and a lively atmosphere. Grab a seat on the patio and soak up the sunshine.

Grab a Smash Burger from Umbrella Burger

If you’ve never tried a smash burger, this is your sign.

Umbrella Burger has developed a loyal following thanks to their perfectly crisp burger patties, delicious fries, and casual neighbourhood vibe. It’s the perfect stop after a day of exploring Beacon Hill.

Pack a Picnic at Loyola Park

Sometimes the simplest summer activities are the best.

Pack your favourite snacks, grab a blanket, and spend an afternoon relaxing at Loyola Park. Whether you’re bringing the kids, reading a book, or enjoying lunch outdoors, it’s one of Beacon Hill’s best green spaces.

Family Zumba

Looking for a fun way to stay active this summer?

The City of Ottawa regularly offers family-friendly programming throughout the season, including Family Zumba classes at the Beacon Hill North Community Centre. It’s a great way to get moving, meet neighbours, and enjoy some community spirit.

Hike at Ski Hill Park

Many residents know Ski Hill Park as a great winter destination, but it’s equally beautiful during the summer months. The trails provide a peaceful escape into nature without leaving the neighbourhood. Bring your walking shoes, your camera, and enjoy a little adventure close to home.

Watch the Planes Take Off at Rockcliffe Airport

This might be one of Beacon Hill’s most underrated summer activities. Find a spot near Rockcliffe Airport and spend some time watching planes take off and land. Kids love it, aviation enthusiasts love it, and it makes for a surprisingly relaxing evening activity.

Walk or Bike the Ottawa River Pathway

One of the biggest perks of living in Beacon Hill is having easy access to the Ottawa River. The Ottawa River Pathway offers kilometres of scenic trails perfect for walking, running, rollerblading, or cycling. It’s one of the most beautiful ways to experience the neighbourhood and enjoy our waterfront.

Treat Yourself to Chris’ Ice Cream

No summer bucket list would be complete without ice cream. Whether you’re stopping by after dinner, cooling off after a bike ride, or simply satisfying a sweet tooth, Chris’ Ice Cream is always worth the visit. Their incredible flavour selection makes it difficult to choose just one.

Beacon Hill North Splash Pad

When Ottawa’s summer heat arrives, there’s no better place for kids to cool down. The Beacon Hill North Splash Pad is a community favourite and a great way to spend a warm afternoon with family and friends.

Canada Day Fireworks

Canada Day in Beacon Hill is something special. Grab a lawn chair or a blanket, gather with neighbours, and enjoy one of the most anticipated nights of the summer as fireworks light up the sky in Loyola Park.
