Neighbourhood Spotlight:
Staying Active in Riverside Park
In this week’s blog, we’re diving into why RIVERSIDE PARK is a great place to live, stay active and skip the Uber drive home from festivals at Mooney’s Bay.
As a real estate agent, I often have the opportunity to get a great sense of the “vibe” a community offers. Last week, we looked at Overbrook’s blend of quiet streets and downtown connectivity. But if you head south along the Rideau River, the energy changes. You move from the “central secret” to a place that feels like a permanent vacation.
Recently, we brought a fantastic row home at 920 Walkley Road to the market. Standing in the bright, open living room there, looking out toward the backyard, it hit me: Riverside Park isn’t just a neighbourhood; it’s a lifestyle choice for people who refuse to choose between urban convenience and nature.
Riverside Park is the recreation capital of Ottawa. Here is why this community is the ultimate landing spot for active professionals and those who love to be outdoors.
The True Anchors: Mooney’s Bay & The Rideau River
While some neighbourhoods have a community centre, Riverside Park has a literal beach resort. Living at 920 Walkley means you are minutes away from the most vibrant waterfront in the city.
The Festival Life: You are walking distance (or a very short bike ride) to the Dragon Boat Festival and the legendary HOPE Volleyball Summerfest. When the music ends, you just stroll home while everyone else is fighting for an Uber.
The “Sunset” Routine: There is nothing like finishing a workday and heading to the shore of the Rideau River. Whether you’re paddleboarding, tanning, or just watching the rowers go by, the water is the heart and soul of this community.
Trails for Days (The Hidden Gems)
If you want to escape the beach crowds, Riverside Park has some of the best “secret” nature spots in Ottawa:
McCarthy Woods: This is my favourite spot for a “brain reset.” It’s a shaded, peaceful forest escape that feels like you’ve been transported out of the city entirely.
The Rideau River Eastern Pathway: For the cyclists, this is your highway. You can hop on and bike virtually uninterrupted all the way downtown.
Hog’s Back Falls: Just a quick trip up the road to see one of the most dramatic views in the city. It’s the perfect spot for a weekend walk with your bestie.
The Bonus Perks: Recreation and Dining
While it’s technically just a short drive or bike ride away in Heron Park, having the RA Centre nearby is a massive win. If you’re serious about your sports, check out their extensive drop-in schedule. It’s the perfect “pro-tier” addition to your active lifestyle.
I’m a firm believer that if you’re going to be this active, you need to fuel up properly. Two spots you absolutely cannot miss:
Vittoria Trattoria: I was just here last week with one of my best girlfriends and—wow. First off, the portions were unexpectedly large (hello, leftovers!), but the real star was the cheesecake with berry compote. It was so good, it basically deserves its own zip code.
Baja Burger Shack: For those summer nights when you just want a burger and a view of the water as the sun sets. It’s pure vacation vibes.
920 Walkley Rd: Your Riverside Park Launchpad
If you want to live this lifestyle, you need a home that keeps up. Our new listing at 920 Walkley Road is exactly that.
The owners recently installed brand-new vinyl flooring throughout the main and second levels, giving the whole place a fresh, modern flow that is incredibly easy to clean (perfect if you’re coming home with a little sand from the beach or mud from the trails!).
A few more reasons to love it:
The Kitchen: Beautiful butcher block countertops and a brand-new dishwasher. It’s a tactile, warm space that actually makes you want to cook.
The “Everything” Basement: It’s finished and ready for whatever you need—a high-end home gym, a cozy movie room, or the ultimate “deep work” home office.
The Outdoor Connection: The large patio door in the open living area acts as your bridge to the private backyard.
Riverside Park offers a sense of space and activity that is so hard to find this close to the city core. If you’re looking for a home that supports an active, outdoor-focused lifestyle without sacrificing your easy commute, let’s go take a look at 920 Walkley.
