October: Community and Giving Back

$11,522.85, to be exact

This week, we pause to celebrate an amazing milestone: thanks to the generosity of our clients, friends, and colleagues, the Nick Fundytus Team has raised over $11,500 for the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation! This is nearly double our original goal and directly supports women and children fleeing domestic violence in our community. We thank every donor, review our team’s other community commitments, and look ahead to Nick’s upcoming participation in the Trek for Shelter hike through the jungles of Siem Reap, Cambodia.

It's because of you (and people like you)!

On Tuesday, I depart to take part in the Trek. Beyond Canada, we’ll also be contributing to charities in Cambodia, and hiking through the jungles around Siem Reap.

The spirit of community is what truly makes a house a home, and this week, the Nick Fundytus Team is absolutely bursting with gratitude for our amazing community. Together, we’ve raised a remarkable $11,522.85 for the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation! This not only blows past our team’s personal goal of $6,000 but also contributes to the national Trek for Shelter campaign, which has exceeded its overall goal of $1,500,000 raised for women’s shelters across Canada.

This staggering amount of generosity represents the largest single-event fundraising push our team has ever undertaken, and it’s all thanks to you.

Your Support Puts People First

Our philosophy has always been simple: “People Over Properties.” This means supporting those less fortunate in our community and ensuring everyone has a safe place to call home. Your support is a powerful affirmation of this belief. Our current donations came from the dedication of our team and a fantastic group of 32 individual donors who gave amounts ranging from $25 to $2,000. These funds, combined with the success of events like our brokerage’s 50/50 draw and a memorable “Name That Tune!” night, have made this achievement possible.

We owe a massive thank you to our friends, family, and clients who contributed. Specifically, we want to acknowledge the generosity of:

  • Maurene and Tony Atherton

  • RCMP Curling Club (generous use of their facilities and support from their membership for “Name That Tune!”
  • Em Damiani

  • Gord Elliot

  • Ian Fortugno

  • Nick Raycroft

  • Lisa the Mover Robinson

  • Royal LePage Colleagues (50/50 Raffle)

  • Rachel Gagnon (donated her raffle winnings!)
  • Sean Clarke
  • Myha and Sande Ewart
  • Russ Perkins
  • Karim Ali
  • Jane Furter
  • Ian Gallant
  • Danielle Gauthier
  • Ray and Tracy Griffiths
  • Adam Hill

  • Daniel Philippe
  • Maureen Rooke
  • Randy Ruim

  • Caroline Seguin-O’Hara and Nick O’Hara
  • Eli Udell
  • Merovitz Potechin LLP
  • Charlene and Eric Van Hofwegen
  • Cristiana and Jay Webster
  • Selina Wang
  • Terry Barnes
  • Anna Russell (colleague also on the trek who paired up to do the 50/50 raffle)
  • Friends, family and colleagues who attended our events and also made direct donations to the foundation. There were many and we thank you too!)

We still have a small window to hit the next major milestone—$12,000—before the trek begins! If you’d like to be the one to push us over the $12,000 mark, you can still contribute here.

The Adventure Ahead: Trekking for Shelter

This fall, I’ll be joining fellow Royal LePage professionals on the Cambodia Challenge for Shelter. This year, the journey takes us to the jungles around Siem Reap in Cambodia. Beyond supporting shelters here in Ottawa and across Canada, the trekkers also contribute to local charities in the host country, extending the Foundation’s reach and impact globally. I can’t wait to share photos and stories from the trail when I return!

While this year’s Trek for Shelter has inspired our largest single fundraising effort, our commitment to giving back is ongoing. Over the years, we have proudly donated via commission contributions, annual curling bonspiels, and other fundraisers

More Ways We Support Ottawa

The Royal LePage Shelter Foundation is just one of the vital organizations we support as part of our commitment to the city we love. We believe that a strong community makes a better life for everyone, and that’s why we also champion these incredible causes:

  • Camp Ten Oaks: A sleep-away camp that provides a safe and supportive space for children and youth aged 8-17 from 2SLGBTQ+ identities, families, and communities.

  • Planned Parenthood Ottawa (PPO): A not-for-profit organization that provides services and information to help people in the Ottawa area make informed, healthy decisions about their health, bodies, and relationships.

  • Rideau Valley Wildlife Sanctuary: This organization’s mission is to treat and care for injured or orphaned wild mammals and reptiles until they can be safely returned to the wild, showing our commitment to the local environment.

  • Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa (BGCO): The club has a massive reach, providing a crucial social safety net for at-risk children and youth across our city through a variety of programs and services.

  • Habitat for Humanity: This charity sets families up for success through their homeownership program, which reduces dependence on social housing and improves overall well-being. Everyone deserves a safe roof over their head.

You can learn more about all the charities we support on our website: https://www.nickfundytus.ca/we-love-ottawa/

Thank you again for making this the most successful fundraising effort in our team’s history. Your generosity will have a direct and lasting impact on women and children right here in Ottawa.
