I hosted my second annual Bonspiel for Shelter this February and it was a wonderful day in support of an amazing cause. We curled, drank, ate delicious chili, and raised $3,505 for the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation!

The day began at 2pm, when the teams began to arrive at the Nepean Sportsplex Spectator Bar. The bar overlooks the sheets of ice, so it is the perfect place to relax after a fun game of curling!

There were a total of 12 curling teams that came out for a day of fun and to support a great cause. Most of these awesome people had never curled before, but they quickly it up and were pro's by their second game!

One of the really fun parts of recreational curling is choosing a hysterical and pun-filled name. Some of the gems from this year's teams were Broom Goes the Dynamite, Curl Jam, On the Rocks, Curling Me Softly, Doc n' the Rocks, Between the Sheets, Scared Skipless, Rink Floyd: Dark Side of the Broom, Sweep Child o' Mine, Sweeping Beauties, Frozen A$$ets, and OK Broomer!

The day was filled with curling games, a delicious Chili buffet dinner catered by Tulips and Maple, a silent auction, and a lively 50/50 draw. Each team played 4 one-hour games throughout the day. As many of our new curlers learned, one the benefits of being new is that the winning team buys the loosing team beer!

The night ended with awarding the winning team and alot of happy and tired curlers!
